Arthur Bechtel – A Pioneer with Passion

In 1972 “Oldtimer” was a term that meant something to only a few people in Germany. A sizable market for classic cars did not exist at the time in Europe - and there was no sign of one developing. This didn’t worry the young Arthur Bechtel, who went ahead and set up his own classic car trading and service company.

His passion for classic automobiles, and a decided talent for dealing with people, allowed his small business to flourish from the start. This combination of expertise, commitment and continuity ensured, over the years, ever-increasing success. As a result, Arthur Bechtel Classic Motors is a major contributor to the fact that today, the most important classic car centre in Germany, can be found near the city of Stuttgart. It is here, the birthplace of the automobile, where the company is still headquartered today, trading globally in high-quality classic automobiles and offering numerous classic car-related services

Two Generations, One Vision

Arthur Bechtel’s enthusiasm for automotive classics is complemented by his great talent to establish and maintain contacts worldwide. For more than three decades he has been travelling to China, which he now refers to as his second home. His fondness for the country and its people has also influenced his son, Tim, from his earliest days. Tim Bechtel has managed the Arthur Bechtel Classic Motors business for several years along with his father, continuing the firm’s success story into a second generation. As well as a great passion for classic automobiles, both father and son share the same vision of bringing these vehicles as important cultural assets to China and thus continuing their pioneering work in the People’s Republic.
