... or what was it actually like in those days?
As the last sporty model before the war, BMW introduced the sporty series 327/328 as Coupe, Cabriolet and Roadster versions in Eisenach as from 1937. The successor to the legendary 326, based on the patented tubular frame chassis, was fitted with a modern chassis with semi-elliptical springs, which, in conjunction with the hydraulic shock absorbers, ensured excellent road holding. The performance of the revised six-cylinder in-line engine was now in the 328-series version of 80 HP, which were good in conjunction with the BMW lightweight construction and the timeless elegant streamlined body of the short and compactly built vehicle for more than 140 km / h. For the conditions at that time an extremely ambitious value that made the vehicles particularly attractive for many private racing drivers and led to numerous racing successes without BMW operating its own racing department but supporting these drivers only in development and accompaniment. Only 465 copies of the 328 series were built, of which only about half existed after the Second World War according to BMW experts.
