The Era

... or what was it actually like in those days?

From 1950 onwards, a powerful new beginning in the automotive industry was emerging after the devastating Second World War. Mercedes-Benz started this area with the new Mercedes-Benz 300 saloon, the new 220 Saloon and the new 180 base-model. And then in 1954, Mercedes-Benz made a sensational return to work in Grand Prix racing with the new supercar 300 SL and a year later in 1955 with its formally related touring sports car 190 SL. With its perfect proportions and a fascinating charisma, it turned into the dream car of the post-war generation. In the course of 9 years, only 25,881 copies of the elegant sport touring car were produced. Whoever wanted to buy such a vehicle had to pay DM 16,500 – this was comparable to buying a small family home at that time!

The Condition

... or how it really is. Original, given a facelift or fully restored?

According to a copy of the MB data card, the first delivery was made to an American in Bitburg, who later took the vehicle to the United States. After its return to Europe, the vehicle was restored in specialist shops. During the restoration special emphasis was placed on the original specifications (color, interior equipment, hood) of the manufacturer. The result is a vehicle resembling a new car character. Due to special restoration services, this vehicle stands out clearly from the normal old-timer market as well as from other classic cars with condition mark 1 (“Motor Matching Numbers”). The work carried out has been extensively documented and the sale is covered by a one-year full warranty. We have already requested an individual valuation report.

The Performance

... or what is it like to drive?

Reliable, functional, suitable for everyday use, easy to maintain, comfortable, exciting and stable in value – these are the characteristics that come to mind when you look at the design icon 190 SL from Mercedes-Benz. But you can also spontaneously use it for a leisurely coffee ride or to get to more distant resorts (quite stylish with the optional suitcase and armrest!). The proverbial Mercedes quality, the high practicality and good handling make this possible. There is also no need to worry about maintenance requirements and possible maintenance measures, since the spare parts supply is well secured and there are plenty of workshops with experience in the maintenance and servicing of the 190’s. In the proverbial value stability of a Mercedes classic car, it is certainly a valuable collector’s item. Furthermore, in its first-class condition, the vehicle certainly has potential for value enhancement.
