Der Europäische Wirtschaftssenat

hosted by Arthur Bechtel Classic Motors

In 2015, company founder and vintage pioneer Arthur Bechtel was appointed as Senator by the Secretary General of the European Economic Senate (EES), with the award of a certificate.

The EES is a prestigious and interdisciplinary European body of successful companies and personalities, who are particularly aware of their responsibilities regarding national and business issues, and who are particularly engaged in their own specialisms and in politics, economics and business. They make their knowledge and experience of policymaking available in an advisory capacity.

On June 17, 2016 Arthur and Tim Bechtel hosted the regularly-held business conference. The Senators and the committee of EES from all over Germany accepted the invitation, becoming engrossed in the world of classic cars spanning eight decades. The atmosphere was superb as the group viewed examples of three historic cars from three eras of vehicle development in our glass workshop, took a look under the bonnet of the pre-war classic Mercedes-Benz 320 Cabriolet A and sat at the controls of a fantastic 190 SL. The Senators found it difficult to tear themselves away for the subsequent senate dinner at Ristorante "Da Signora".

However, EU Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger, made up for it with his brilliant and thrilling presentation "From Classic Car to Mobile 4.0" which offered an exciting glimpse into the future of motoring.

As after-dinner speaker we were able to secure the Chairman of the Press Foundation of Baden-Württemberg, Mr. Rainer Lang.

The subsequent discussions and inspirational talks continued late into the night.

The business conference with Arthur Bechtel Classic Motors was another highlight of 2016, which is "World Motoring Heritage Year". Under the auspices of UNESCO, the year is dedicated to the classic automobile as a cultural testament to human creativity.
