...or what was it actually like in those days?
There are some shapes which cannot be improved. Thousands of car bodies have gone from drawing board to production over the course of almost 130 years of automotive history, but only a few dozen have been accepted as true design icons in the history of the production automobile. The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is undoubtedly one of those designs whose perfect proportions continue to inspire even today, half a century after the end of its production, and whose influence cannot be ignored.
...or how did it fare over the years?
This vehicle was delivered to its first owner in 1961 to America. Thereafter, the track of the vehicle loses until it reappears on sale at Bodine Auto Sales in Alabama. After a Texan has bought the Roadster in 2007, he quickly realizes that a comprehensive renewal is inevitable and sold the vehicle to a German.
...or how it really is. Original, given a facelift or fully restored?
Few years ago, the vehicle has been fully restored to the highest standard, by specialist companies. It is presented in flawless condition both visually and mechanically, to the same standards as when it was first delivered. All work is documented.
...or what is it like to drive?
In the especially elegant and rare colour combination of metallic light blue exterior with blue roof and 2-tone cognac leather interior, it looks very graceful - a classic, high-value collector’s item. However, you can also spontaneously fall in its comfortable leather seats and drive off in a flash, whether to the local coffee shop or on holiday! The rock-solid engineering and suitability for everyday use make this possible. The design it attracts plenty of attention: from any side and any angle you look at it, whilst stationary or in motion, if you like profiles, you cannot resist turning your head - both with the roof down and up.
