...or what was it actually like in those days?
1950 saw a powerful new beginning after the devastation of the Second World War: the contemporary Mercedes-Benz 300 sedan, the new luxury 220 saloon and the new 180 base model. And then, in 1954, with the spectacular return of Mercedes-Benz into Grand Prix racing, the new 300 SL super sports car and a year later the introduction of its cousin, the 190 SL sports car. With its perfect proportions and amazing looks, it was the dream car of the post-war generation.
...or how did it fare over the years?
The car was delivered to Daimler-Benz New York in October 1959, which is confirmed by the Mercedes-Benz car card. A US-title from 2014 of the State of Florida is available and affirms back conclusions about a further use in the states.
...or how it really is. Original, given a facelift or fully restored?
The Mercedes 190 SL is restored to the highest level by specialist companies, and is now presented visually and mechanically as a top-quality vehicle. It displays at least the same quality as when it was originally delivered. Since restoration, the vehicle has not been driven. The works are documented with photos.
...or what is it like to drive?
It looks simply stunning and, weather permitting, you can hardly resist jumping in, opening the roof, securing the canopy with a few easy steps and driving off. You can feel the elements when driving around, yet remain safe, comfortable and sound in the well-tailored leather seats. Longer trips can also be enjoyed, due to the legendary build quality and sophisticated technical standards of the SL series. And don’t forget, there is also the wonderful feeling of having made a sensible and secure investment.
