...or what was it really like back then?

The Mercedes-Benz 220 was introduced together with the Type 300 (known as the Adenauer) at the IAA in 1951, featuring the first newly developed six-cylinder in-line-engine from Daimler-Benz after the Second World War. The modern short-stroke engine with overhead camshaft was built into the largely unchanged chassis of the 170 S and helped the vehicle to achieve significantly better performance. The engine was continuously modified and built in various versions for almost 40 years until 1989. Externally the 220 could be recognised by the modified engine cowl and the headlights integrated into the fenders. The new range was offered as a saloon, two-seater coupe, two-seater Cabriolet A and four-seater Cabriolet B. With a basic price of 15,160DM, only 997 examples of the exclusive family friendly Cabriolet B were built.

...or how it really is. Original, restored or just had a facelift?

The vehicle has recently been completely restored at the highest level. The Cabriolet B featured here is in an immaculate condition, both technically and aesthetically. The vehicle features flawless spacing between its parts, is of superb appearance and its technology functions perfectly. A comprehensive photographic documentation about the performed work is available.

…or what can it still do?

A 220 B Cabriolet gives its owner/driver and passengers a matchless feeling of calmness and quiet pleasure with the knowledge that one can rely on it as a quality product. One could also say typical Mercedes: a symbol of German craftsmanship! A particularly visceral experience is a trip with the roof down. With this comes the knowledge of having made an especially sound investment in an item holding its value. A Mercedes from the 1950s in a wonderful style, available as a two or four-seater convertible. It appeals both to emotion and logic in equal measure.
