...or what it was really like back then?
A top class automobile representing the very best of the German car industry in a dark period. Armaments production had priority at that time. The purchase of vehicles was subsidised if they were available for mobilisation should the need have arisen. With the many available variants for vehicles and body shapes at Mercedes, the new Type 320 replaced the Type 290 from 1937. The chassis from the 290 continued to be used with the longer and wider car body built onto it. The 320 was conceived as a touring car capable of travelling longer distances. Although the vehicle was not designed as a sports car, it is distinguished by its good road holding and pleasant, energy efficient handling.
...or how did it fare over the years?
American title from 1974 is on hand. In Germany since 2012.
...or how it really is: Original, had a facelift or remoulded?
The car underwent a complete, high-quality restoration in 2013 including new wood construction, engine, gearbox and axle reconditioning. The vehicle is in immaculate condition at the same level it had when it first left the factory. Everything functions perfectly. The work has been documented with photographs.
...or what can it still do?
The vehicle is particularly suitable for presentations and prestige excursions. The legroom for the back seat passengers is phenomenal. With its conservative colour scheme through the black bodywork together with the luxurious light brown leather interior, it definitely attracts admiring glances from onlookers. The excellent technical condition allows for smooth trips at all times. Given the right care and maintenance this car still has a long life ahead and increases in value are to be expected.
